| Information architecture should ensure that users are able to locate the information they need quickly and conveniently. Before an appropriate design theme can be considered, the underlying structure of the web site content must be developed. The aim is to make the web site user-friendly. It is this, not the graphics, that keeps users coming back. For a user to be able to find information easily, they need to be able to understand the way in which the information space is organised. The information architecture needs to be obvious and intuitive to the user. To achieve this objective, the web designer needs experience and skill. Our approach in developing an appropriate site structure is to carefully analyse the content the client wants included in the web site and in doing so, identify the key elements that best convey the information to the target audience. We then check the concept we have developed with a number of representative end-users. By doing this we can be confident that the end-user will be able to locate the information with a minimum of searching and mouse clicks. |
